The fundament of artistic action in the Space department consists of a variety of space concepts which allow for the complex and changing ideas of our daily life. This variety of concepts ranges from the core of an object to the architectural, atmospheric and social environment.
The students define the space of action, they analyze the spatial conditions and their personal interest. Based on this analysis, they develop a specific aesthetic operation.
The main goal is not the production of "artistic objects“ with the help of given stimuli, but the experience and research of arts as a form of expression and thought. Not only is this aim of aesthetic confrontation as form of an aesthetic attitude bound to a concept of arts, but also to the individual and its social as well as cultural environment.
Questions posed in cultural studies and art science, philosophical discourses and the use of sophisticated language are the basis of and accompany the own artistic practice.
Influenced by my work as an artist, the possibilities of spatial and atmospheric changes are also guideline concepts for the process of mediation: The method of arts is understood as the method of teaching, i.e. we aim at opening the students’ eyes for the meaning and relevance which the conditions of a situation have in art practice and art mediation.
My lessons ought to be understood mainly as discussions in which the design and/or art works are presented and thus published. Each week the students reflect different levels of their work . Additionally, the lessons can be a place of exemplary teamwork, experiments or presentation: Thus, seminars are both colloquia and research laboratories at the same time.
We visit exhibitions and studios, search for external and internal cooperation partners. Study trips expand the range of learning and teaching situations. Invitations of science and art experts who speak in their own specific way about their work round off everyday life of students in Hildesheim.
